Thuggish Ruggish Tone

iKitty
As I listened to my iPod yesterday while waiting for the Red Line, I thought to myself that some cover band comprised of string players (like Apocalyptica, but less symphonic metal-oriented) really should cover the entire oeuvre of Bone Thugz N' Harmony.

This is either a ridiculously good idea or the worst idea I've ever had.

Food, glorious food

only in Kenya
I stole this meme from [info]skipthedemon; I thought it was pretty cool and I'm too lazy to write an actual entry right now. And because I've been watching a lot of Food Network lately (one of the television stations I can stand to have on for more than five minutes), so yeah.

1) Copy this list into your blog or journal, including these instructions.
2) Bold all the items you’ve eaten.
3) Cross out any items that you would never consider eating
4) Optional extra: Post a comment at www.verygoodtaste.co.uk linking to your results. (You can also go here to find links to explanations of the less-identifiable foods).

So, 60 out of 100, with one "maybe." I really need to get going on those other ones.

This Girl Walks Into a Bar; Says "Ouch."

pensive
Yeah, I haven't been around. Not much to write about, unless you want to hear me bitch about the bar; and blogging would likely qualify as a massive dereliction of responsibility at any rate. I figured, however, that a week and a day before the bar, during a short study break, would be a great opportunity to harness the good will of my blog roll and ask for reassurance, positive thinking, and the like. If you could send me prayers, or good vibes, or stories of dumbass lawyers you know who passed the bar, or bribe the bar examiner1, it would be much appreciated.

So, just so the record is clear, my bar-taking schedule is thus:

7/28, AM - Drive to Albany, spend the night

Day One (7/29): NY Essay Day

7/29, PM - Drive to Springfield, MA, spend the night

Day Two (7/30): Multistate Day
Day Three (7/31): MA Essay Day

Also, a few words on Batman. Minor spoilers. )

I'm very excited about the Watchmen movie. Oh, and am I the only one who thinks that the choice of Smashing Pumpkins' "The Beginning is The End Is The Beginning" as the song for the trailer was a really inspired one?

1 DISCLAIMER: Any seemingly illegally suggestions are uttered for purely satirical and/or jocular purposes. Please don't actually bribe the bar examiner.

Buncha Savages In This Town

boston hoe
I've lived here for almost three years, so when I hear that a bunch of Boston sports fans riot after a big win, I react as I would if you were to tell me that the sky is blue, or that the roads in Massachusetts are unnavigable. But imagine my surprise when I saw the YouTube video of the riot, and in the opening shot, I see a throng of Massholes, drunk on the nectar of victory, shattering the windows of my former employer, Greater Boston Legal Services:

For the record, I don't follow basketball. Never have. As such, I have nothing for or against the Celtics. If you have something against the Celtics, however, you might enjoy this.

UPDATE: Mass Lawyers' Weekly reports that it's a result of the police department losing control of the crowd, who was pissed off that they blocked off Friend Street.

If I weren't in the throes of bar studying, I would think of raising money to donate towards the windows. Hell, I'm seriously considering it.

Long shot, probably, but...

Has anyone on my flist ever been to Costa Rica? Or anywhere in Central America, for that matter? (i.e., south of Mexico, through Panama) I bought the Lonely Planet travel book, and I checked Trip Advisor, but I want to hear from you what's good to see and not see, where it's good to eat, and what ratio of colones to travelers checks to USD I should maintain. We'll be flying in via Miami to San Jose, but we're staying at a resort in Playa Flamingo, which is a good five hours away from the capital. The resort is about an hour or so from the Nicaraguan border, so I'm wondering if we should cross into Nicaragua, or if that's not such a good idea.

graduated

justice kitty
So I am now officially a law school graduate. Which means I can add "Esq." after my name, I think.

The graduation ceremony was quite a nice affair, despite it being held in a hockey arena and my fellow classmates having chosen Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" as the recessional song.1 [info]elvedril attended, and seeing him there was great. Justice Breyer (yes, that Justice Breyer) was our commencement speaker, and his speech was quite inspiring. He seemed approachable - certainly more approachable than one would imagine a Supreme Court Justice to be - though I unfortunately didn't get to meet him afterwards to verify whether this was the case.

The law school awarded Nylah a posthumous degree, and the Commencement Committee made sure that a seat was left empty for her during graduation. When she was awarded her degree, the entire stadium gave her a standing ovation, and Justice Breyer bowed his head and removed his hat, which I found particularly touching.

Thanks to everyone who was there. Pictures will be up on Facebook when my parents get them to me.

EDIT: Jorge and I are officially going to Costa Rica after the bar!

1 I still maintain that my suggestion of "Bittersweet Symphony" was far superior, but no one listened to me. Of the final three choices for recessional song, I voted for "The Final Countdown," but alas, that did not win.

I'm not dead yet... I'm getting better...

Yeah, sorry for being gone for about a month and a half. It's going to be damn near impossible to catch up on all the stuff I've missed that you may have posted on your blog, so please inform me here of any very important news that I really should know about - births, deaths, illnesses, weddings, anniversaries, new relationships, graduations, new jobs, changes in profession, notable material acquisitions, and the like. Hell, make stuff up, if you want.

99 Problems But Billable Hours Ain't One

justice kitty
Lawyer Quits Job, Becomes Rap Artist

Known as "Mekka Don," the 26-year-old is the subject of an upcoming YouTube six-episode series, The "Legal" Hustler, that depicts his daily life since he decided to pursue a hip-hop music career. The series premieres Monday, and new seven-minute episode will be featured the following five Mondays.

I was actually really disappointed when I found out that the attorney in question is a young, black, reasonably attractive (seriously, he's rockin' the Brooks Brother's suit) recent NYU Law grad, since when I read the headline, I was picturing this paunchy, balding old white partner. (Cause seriously, my version makes for a more amusing mental picture.)

If you think about it, there is a lot of intersection between law and hip-hop: Chamillionaire's "Ridin'" and Jay-Z's "99 Problems" taught me everything I need to know about the Fourth Amendment.

Nothing's going to top #10 of that list.
